“A bill to require the Secretary of Energy to establish a Data Center Community Assistance Program, and for other purposes.”
No CRS summary available for this bill.
This section establishes the Data Center Community Assistance Program under the Secretary of Energy. Within 180 days of enactment, the program provides State, local, and Tribal governments with technical assistance and analysis on projected electricity demand, water use, infrastructure costs and rate impacts, cooling technologies, backup generation, jobs, tax revenues, and incentives from proposed data centers. It also requires development of a publicly accessible Data Center Community Toolkit in plain English containing model questions, term definitions, case studies, and a guide to benefits and tradeoffs. At a government’s request, the Secretary may request data from developers and independently evaluate assumptions, data reliability, and technical reasonableness, while identifying all material limitations and making no siting recommendations.
