S. 5543 — STRONGER Act

This section renames the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment grant program the Residential Substance Use Disorder Treatment program and updates related terminology throughout. It requires grantees to incorporate medication-assisted treatment using at least one FDA-approved medication, mandates training for prison medical officers on addiction science and continuity of care, and requires program providers to affiliate with entities that can prescribe such medications after release. It also directs at least 10 percent of state grants to local jails and permits funds for overdose reversal medications and opioid treatment provider certification.
