S. 5050 — Expanding AI Voices Act

This section directs the Director of the National Science Foundation to make competitive, merit-reviewed awards to eligible institutions of higher education and nonprofit organizations to expand capacity in artificial intelligence research, education, and workforce development. Eligible entities may use funds for research programs, faculty recruitment, bridge programs for post-baccalaureate students, computing resources, workshops, and integration of safe AI practices; the Director must conduct outreach to institutions with limited AI capacity, prioritize geographic diversity and first-generation students, and avoid duplicating existing programs.
