“A bill to amend title II of the Social Security Act to eliminate work disincentives for childhood disability beneficiaries.”
No CRS summary available for this bill.
This section revises eligibility rules for child's insurance benefits based on a parent's old-age or disability benefits. It permits qualification for a child whose disability began before age 22 even if the child engaged in substantial gainful activity after onset, eliminates any requirement of continuous disability from onset until application filing, and deems an application for child's benefits to also constitute an application for disability insurance benefits (if under early retirement age) or old-age insurance benefits (if at or above that age), with the child receiving the larger monthly amount. The changes apply to applications filed on or after the date that is 24 months after enactment.
