“To increase access to artificial intelligence through programs of the Department of Agriculture, and for other purposes.”
No CRS summary available for this bill.
This section finds that artificial intelligence has the potential to improve farm productivity and security, enhance decision-making in crop and animal systems, develop precision technologies, reduce resource use, expand economic opportunities for small and family farms, and allow U.S. farmers to outcompete international competitors. It expresses the sense of Congress that the Secretary of Agriculture should increase access to artificial intelligence through Department of Agriculture programs and outreach, as well as collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
This section expands priority areas under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative to include research, development, and implementation of artificial intelligence for precision agriculture, farm management, crop production, resource management, cybersecurity, and weather monitoring, and adds workforce development and technical training in computing systems, artificial intelligence, precision agriculture adoption, and machine maintenance. It incorporates artificial intelligence systems into the Agriculture Advanced Research and Development Authority for development, deployment, and solutions for farmers and ranchers. It directs cooperative extension services to provide outreach and education on artificial intelligence systems and data-driven agricultural management tools. It also authorizes grants for food and agricultural sciences education to support workforce development programs and teaching enhancement projects focused on artificial intelligence and precision agriculture technologies.
This section establishes an Artificial Intelligence Agriculture Advisor within the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The Advisor must promote adoption of artificial intelligence and digital agriculture technologies in every State through technical assistance, workforce training, precision agriculture tools, data-driven farm management, animal system practices, and support for small farms, and must develop and implement national artificial intelligence standards for the agriculture sector in collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
