“To require the Secretary of Defense to submit to Congress a report on the recovery of certain United States nationals, and for other purposes.”
No CRS summary available for this bill.
This section directs the Secretary of Defense to submit a report within 180 days after enactment to the congressional defense committees assessing Department support for recovery, repatriation, and accountability of United States nationals who are deceased, unlawfully detained, missing, or of unresolved status abroad, particularly in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The report must evaluate interagency coordination with the Hostage Recovery Fusion Cell, incorporation of rescue missions into combatant command plans, criteria for using military assets, intelligence gaps in areas without U.S. presence, statutory or resource constraints, partner-nation best practices, and the feasibility of a formal “No American Left Behind” doctrine.
