H.R. 8749 — SAFE through Medicare Act

This section establishes Medicare coverage, beginning January 1, 2027, for home resiliency services furnished to individuals determined medically at-risk during climate or manmade disasters. It requires the Secretary, in consultation with the Directors of the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, to establish eligibility criteria considering geography-specific risks, 20-year disaster history or forward-looking predictions, reliance on temperature- or power-sensitive medical equipment, and chronic conditions or disabilities. It sets payment at 100 percent of the lesser of the actual charge or a Secretary-established fee schedule amount.
