No CRS summary available for this bill.
This section revises the suspension procedures for the Guam and Northern Mariana Islands visa waiver program by requiring the Secretary of Homeland Security to make a written determination based on specific facts that continued admissions from a country would cause unlawful presence, unlawful entry elsewhere, excessive asylum claims, or threats to safety or security; to consult with the Secretaries of the Interior, State, and Commerce and the governors of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands; to assess economic and fiscal impacts; and to provide 60 days’ notice to specified congressional committees before any suspension takes effect, while authorizing a 60-day emergency suspension for imminent national security threats and requiring annual reviews to terminate suspensions when conditions no longer warrant them. It also adds India, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mongolia as eligible countries under the program, subject to existing conditions and the new suspension criteria.
