No CRS summary available for this bill.
This section expands widow’s and widower’s insurance benefits for two-income households. It sets the monthly benefit at the greater of the deceased spouse’s primary insurance amount or 75 percent of the sum of the survivor’s own old-age or disability benefit and the deceased’s primary insurance amount, capped at the primary insurance amount of a hypothetical worker who earned 1⅓ times the national average wage index in every elapsed year and claimed benefits at early retirement age. The changes apply to benefits payable for months after December 2026. It deems any increase in title II benefits not to count as income for Supplemental Security Income eligibility determinations.
